“There’s gold in them there brains”

Did you know that the first gold that was discovered, was not in California? In 1799, 12 year old Conrad Reed was fishing on his families farm in Little Meadow Creek, which is now Charlotte North Carolina when he found a 17 pound gold nugget.

49 years later on January 24, 1848, a discovery of gold was made in California, which prompted the "California gold rush".

Till this day there remains untapped gold mines in Pensylvania, North Carolina, South Carolina etc.

The California gold rush was considered the greatest migration in U.S history. People quit their jobs, took out loans and went into debt, some left their families. Some took to riding in horse drawn covered wagons across the country and some people took to sea and traveled on ships on a 13,000 mile journey via Cape Horn or through Panama. Many died of disease and starvation along the way. the ships were jam-packed and  overcrowded with "fortune seekers" and naturally the ships ran rampant with Cholera and other horrible diseases. People were risking life and limb and fleeing the east coast and midwest in droves to get to the west coast where the gold was.

What I found interesting is that a lot of the people who migrated to the west coast in search of  "fortune" and "treasures" and opportunities for better lives and to live the lives of their dreams, died of illnesses like cholera along the way some were murdered by robbers, The MAJORITY of people who migrated to the west coast never found gold. MOST people who traveled those great distances never found their gold. They died penniless!

The most interesting thing is that there were untapped gold mines right beneath their feet on the easy coast.  why did they risk life and limb, risk their families, risk and waste their time and money and energy and resources to go find gold, the same gold that was right under their feet the whole time?

I guess it's kinda like us when we search high and low to find our "treasures" and our  "opportunities of our lifetimes" and we end up in an endless search for these opportunities that are going to change our lives. We go broke in search of these opportunities and a lot of us will die in search of this "gold" that we will never find. We are in search of gold that is already right beneath our feet. Our "gold" is already right where we are standing we are all sitting right on top of our own personal gold mines! They are right in our minds. We don't need to search high and low, we don't need to travel 13,000 miles we don't need to cross dangerous terrain. We have untapped riches and "gold mines" in our minds. We only need to look and search and "mine" out own minds!

How many of us are sitting on our own personal "gold mines"? How many of us can  just naturally write, sing, dance, sell, build, teach, cut or style hair, do manicures, have ideas for businesses, cook, paint, draw, motivate, act, direct, care for the sick, argue or negotiate like lawyers, have a passion to preach etc. But how many of us  choose not to, "mine" our own personal "gold mines" , but are constantly searching elsewhere, for that "golden opportunity"?

What was more interesting to me is that During the California gold rush the merchants who sold supplies and equipment to the miners stayed right where they were. They ended up making more money than the miners who traveled across the country and the world.

I guess the point is that if you are looking to "strike gold" if you are looking for that opportunity that is going to change your life forever and
The opportunity to take your life to the next level, just remember you won't have to travel far or risk life and limb. YOU HAVE AN UNTAPPED GOLD MINE IN YOUR MIND!

Sing that song, write that book, go back to school, make that dish, take that course, preach that sermon, make that sales call, design those clothes or jewelry, knock on that door etc.

WE ARE ALL STANDING ON OUR OWN PERSONAL GOLD MINES! ALL THE GOLD WE NEED IS ALREADY RIGHT BENEATH OUR FEET!

LETS START DIGGING!

PEACE!
